Legal Inc gets personnel

Edisclosure, litigation and technology specialist Legal Inc has announced the launch of a new service aimed at addressing some of the key resourcing issues for today’s litigation support department.

Incterim will see Legal Inc consultants made available on short, medium or long-term secondments, enabling law firms to scale up teams with temporary staff who have specific litigation expertise and coal-face experience.

As Lisa Burton, co-founder of Legal Inc, explains, adequately resourcing caseloads when demands can flex so alarmingly is not as straightforward as it seems:

“The feedback we received from litigation support managers was that they all need outside help at some time or another, and not just extra lit support bodies but also increasingly IT consultants, workflow engineers and project managers. They were finding that going through mainstream recruitment agencies was not always satisfactory.

Common problems included people having the requisite skills but not the relevant experience within the litigation environment, which made for protracted learning curves and time-consuming supervision. And then there was finding the skills in the first place: identifying useful generalists at one end of the spectrum or essential specialists at the other was taking time and effort they could ill afford to spare.

As one of the UK’s most respected litigation support and technology consultancies, we have built our business on bringing together both legal and technical talent, immersing them within this unique arena and deploying them at the legal coal-face.  We’re looking to supplement teams with seasoned practitioners, who understand the drivers and dynamics of litigation, who know every aspect of the EDRM working model, who have proven track records in their own particular subjects, and who can bring immediate value to any project needing extra resources. No protracted learning curve, no hand holding, no knowledge gaps, no process flaws, no management weaknesses.”

Key skills and roles covered include:

•    IT systems architecture, infrastructure and security consultancy
•    ‘Best of breed’ litigation support and other COTS application advice, consultancy
•    Litigation systems and IT support
•    Consultancy and advice on secure data collection
•    Data and document preparation
•    Capture of data (coding)
•    Electronic data pre-processing, processing
•    Early case assessment

Legal Inc ties knot with Digital Reef

February 19, 2010 · Posted in Press releases · Comment

Litigation support and technology consultancy Legal Inc has announced that it has signed a hosting and reseller agreement with information management specialist Digital Reef Inc (DRI).

The move is a key part of Legal Inc’s strategy to provide clients with an end-to-end case management solution, starting at the earliest possible stage: a client’s data estate.

The Digital Reef solution can be placed behind the corporate firewall or delivered on a fully managed, hosted basis. It enables clients to fully index, search and conduct a first pass review of all their data stores, with control remaining completely in-house rather than having to pass to an external law firm. Where the resultant data collection needs further analysis Legal Inc will offer a choice of processing and review tools, ensuring seamless management of the data life-cycle.

For corporates, the tie-up has the potential to unlock substantial time and cost savings while reducing risk. An in-house team’s ability to conduct its own intelligent search means that first pass legal review and case assessment are achievable without the need for expensive outside help; the use of a single tool for the search, cull and review phases simplifies and expedites the whole process as well as avoids the expense of large loading fees; while data for further analysis can be immediately processed by Legal Inc with due protection of the all-important chain of custody and data provenance.

Legal Inc’s co-founders and directors Lisa Burton and Dipak Patel are keen to stress the significance of the deal. They said: “With organizations seeing an increase not just in litigation but in regulatory investigations and enquiries, the emphasis is on proactively preparing for such an eventuality rather than reactively panicking when the knock at the door comes. With data estates sized in petabytes, and much of it unstructured, heads of legal need a proven means to get ‘order out of chaos’ and move to that desired state of ‘litigation readiness’. Digital Reef can drive that transformation in a timely, cost-effective and efficient manner and we’ve yet to see a comparable solution challenge it. We now need to get the message out there that this is very much ‘must have’ technology, rather than ‘nice to have’. The stakes are too high for nice.”

Litigation support and technology specialist Legal Inc has announced the appointment of Lee Reason as a Senior Project Manager. He joins from Mayer Brown International where he was Litigation Support Manager, having previously worked across corporate and commercial support departments at Linklaters.

That makes for a professional but pragmatic approach, and one where the importance of the ‘process, people, technology’ equation is truly understood. Lee comes with an impeccable track record and his arrival strengthens the team at a time of unprecedented growth for Legal Inc.”
